Green Building: 18 Kowloon East by Aedas:

Kowloon Bay, once dependent on manufacturing, is undergoing transformation of rejuvenation. With the building located in a community with dense industrial blocks, instead of providing another office tower entirely wrapped in a coolly glazed skin, the design investigates the possibility of providing an environmentally sustainable design in such an industrial area. The target is to contribute a greening effect to the neighborhood and enhance the quality of life for users in the building as well as the pedestrians on the street level.

Designed by renowned architect Aedas, the 18 Kowloon East is a 28-storey green building located in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, China. This commercial building has a surface area of 32,400 sq m (GFA). The area where this building is located was once house to several manufacturing industries but now the Kowloon Bay is undergoing massive transformation. With a sustainable design, this green building would enhance the life of the people using this building. Aedas is hopeful that the greening effect of the neighborhood would also improve due to this building. Since the theme of this green megastructure is ‘green’, the floors which are meant for car parking has plants to add to the greening effect. The car parking space is at the tower’s lower portion. The plants not only add to the greening effect of the neighborhood, they also give a unique and pleasing look to the building.
